Job Summary:  

Under the general direction of the Pay & Benefit Services Division Chief, Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) plans, organizes, and directs the human resources activities related to transactions for the entire department at Cal OES. The SSM I supervise staff performing Human Resources Transactions, including but not limited to, payroll processes, benefits administration, appointments, and appointment changes. The incumbent is expected to provide a high level of guidance and exceptional customer services on complex human resource related issues, and demonstrate the highest degree of skill, knowledge, and poise. Will serve as the department’s subject matter expert in interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures as they relate to payroll, personnel, leave, benefit transactions and medical leaves.

Working Conditions

Conflict of Interest: This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Telework: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.
