Creative Director

Muskingum University invites applications for a Creative Director.  This position will lead the creative team in developing and executing visual concepts, designs, and strategies.  The Creative Director ensures implementation of the institutional brand, as well as defining the creative vision for institutional collateral in alignment with the brand and in collaboration with stakeholders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Brainstorms ideas, creates compelling visuals and content, and ensures alignment with brand standards.
  • Generates innovative ideas, solves problems creatively, and adapts to changing circumstances.
  • Supervises the creative team including marketing coordinator, visual design manager, and digital content manager.
  • Guides and inspires team members and provides feedback on overall teamwork, ensuring high-quality creative output and achievement of goals.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders across the University, providing counsel and effectively communicating creative ideas.
  • Oversees all stages of the creative process, from initial concept to content and design development and final delivery, while adhering to budgets and deadlines.
  • Works with project coordinator to manage team workload and project expectations.
  • Uses digital illustration, photo editing software, and layout software to create designs and collateral.
  • Captures and edits compelling, thoughtful and engaging photos for use in marketing collateral.
  • Stays abreast of marketing and design trends, especially for higher education.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional design experience, demonstrating proficiency in creating innovative and effective design solutions.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, including the ability to manage and lead teams effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and produce quality graphics in both print and digital formats.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant industry software.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, anticipate workflow, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication. 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Photography experience capturing compelling photos, editing them, and helping manage the photo library.
  • Experience working with print vendors and creating print ready files.
  • Experience with web content management systems, html email providers, and social media management tools.
  • Experience working with emerging technologies, specifically AI, to enhance marketing outcomes.
